Six Easy Steps To Reaching Hormone
Balance For Women & Men
Hormonal health can only be achieved through hormone balance. Traditionally the medical community has approached hormone replacement with a one-size-fits-all dose of synthetic hormones. There are two problems with this. First, every patient is different and presents with a unique set of symptoms and hormone levels that warrant a unique/customized therapy. The amount and dosage form (capsule, cream, lozenge, etc . . .) of each therapy is dependent on many factors, and these factors must properly be reviewed prior to commencing or recommending therapy. Secondly synthetic (non bio-identical) hormones such as those found have been proven to increase the risk of breast cancer and other chronic conditions in the recent Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study.
Bio-Identical hormones are 100% identical in chemical structure to those that are found in the human body. Progesterone, for example has many benefits and less side effects when compared to its synthetic counterpart medroxyprogesterone (a progestin). The body does not see bio-identical hormones as foreign because these hormones have been produced in the body since the time of birth. Although these hormones are natural it is important to note that too much of any hormone can be dangerous if dosed inappropriately. That is why we have started Med Specialties Compounding Pharmacy and TestMyHormones.com to help patients find the hormonal health that they have been looking for. If you are a woman suffering from PMS, stress, peri-menopause, or menopause/hysterectomy related hormone imbalance or a man suffering from Andropause (testosterone deficiency) we can work with directly with you and your physician to solve the problem naturally. Most important, we will customize a therapy for you, based exclusively on your levels, needs and symptoms.
6 Step Program
1) TestMyHormones.com Free Hormone Evaluation
Our most recent addition to our web site, is this free comprehensive evaluations. This online form reviews the following: current/past medical history, current/past medications, diet, exercise, current symptoms, and much more. This evaluation is then used by our hormone specialist to determine what type of testing (if any) would be necessary based on the information provided. Our hormone specialist will contact you with this information via e-mail allowing you review it and follow through with testing if you choose. This evaluation is also saved and stored in our files for 3 months in case you ever choose to have a phone consultation with our hormone specialist/compounding pharmacist.
2) Saliva Hormone Testing
Saliva Hormone Testing has become a well established and extremely accurate way to measure hormone levels in the body. TestMyHormones.com has a full line of saliva hormone tests which allow patients to measure hormone levels in the privacy of their own home. A small saliva sample is collected in the morning and can be used to measure estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, cortisol (the stress hormone), and other hormones if necessary. We offer these services to both women and men. The saliva hormone sample is then mailed to the lab (postage is free) and results are sent directly to you. Our compounding pharmacist can then be contacted for a free 10 minute review of your levels. This review ensures that you have a clear idea of what your hormone levels mean and how they correlate with your current symptoms. Hormone levels should not be the only factor when determining a recommendation for hormone replacement, but they do provide patients and practitioners with a clear picture or a patient’s hormonal status. Lab levels should be combined with a review of the patient’s symptoms prior to making a recommendation for Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).
3) Consultation With our Compounding Pharmacist
Med Specialties Pharmacy prides itself on the success that we have had in helping patients balance their hormones. Our compounding pharmacist has made therapeutic recommendations for thousands of patients. The backbone of our success is based on our desire and willingness to listen to our patients. Our private and personal hormone consultations review every aspect of a patients hormonal health, review all of your symptoms in depth, and answer any questions or concerns that you may have regarding BHRT. There is a charge for our hormone consultations is $119/hour and is pro-rated to the minute (you only pay for the time that you use).
4) Our Compounding Pharmacist Contacts Your Physician
Most patients ask us for recommendations for a physician in their area that works with BHRT. We can make recommendations when necessary, but our first goal is to continue the relationship that patients have already built with their current physician. We have had over a 95% success rate in starting patients on BHRT by going directly to their physician with a recommendation. Our practice is build on the triad of care (patient, physician, and pharmacist). We strongly believe that help and success come from building strong relationships within this triad. And how better to do it than to start with a physician that you have already build a relationship with. Our pharmacist directly contacts your physician with a therapeutic plan for Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement if necessary. The physician then contacts our compounding pharmacists to approve or deny the recommendation. This eliminates the feeling many patients have of being the “middle-man”. If your physician requires additional data, we can provide them with the medical literature to support our recommendation. All this is done to take the hassle out of patients having to go back and forth between the pharmacist and the physician. Once the approval for therapy is given, hormone replacement can begin.
5) Supplementation With Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement
Once therapy is approved by your physician our compounding pharmacist or an approved compounding pharmacy in your area can formulate a bio-identical hormone replacement regimen for you. As always the recommended therapy is based on your needs, symptoms, and lab levels. BHRT is available in a variety of dosage forms which are usually discussed during your consultation with our compounding pharmacist. There are pros and cons to each dosage form so it is important to know which form will result in the best compliance by the patient. Free shipping by most pharmacies is available, and consultation upon receiving the therapy is free of charge, ensuring that you have a clear understanding of how to use your new prescription therapy.
6) Follow-Up And Adjustment
As with any successful therapy follow-up is important. As you age your body changes and your hormone requirements change. Our compounding pharmacists are there to listen to you and any changes that you may be experiencing. When changes need to be made to your therapy we can contact your physicians and recommend the appropriate adjustments. Patients can feel free to call us anytime and schedule a free follow-up hormone review with our pharmacist. Listening to your needs is what makes us successful.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us and we will respond as soon as we can. We hope to continue to earn your trust and we appreciate your desire to further the use of BHRT. Please note that Dr. Gonzalez and his associates are available for speaking engagements in your area.
